So it seems the water coming in to the boot on my RS6 C6 Avant is coming from the offside tail light. I'm not 100% sure at the moment but it seems likely as the area behind the light is wet. There is obviously a leak and it is allowing water to get in. you can remove the housing and try to reseal with silicone caulk from home depot in areas you believe it can possibly get in like edges where plastic pieces were bonded together or where the bulb goes into the housing.
